Volume 5, Number 1                January 16, 2010

Hi <$firstname$>,

2010: The Year of the Book

Because writing a book is one of the most powerful ways to establish yourself as an expert in your market, I've decided to encourage everyone who has put off writing that book to make this year the year you write your book.

I've declared this year the Year of the Book and set up a number of programs to help you accomplish this goal.

First, I will be posting information and helpful tips on Twitter, my blog and in this newsletter. Throughout the year, I will be encouraging you to start to write and continue to write. Also, be sure to participate in the events listed to the right.

Second, everyone who sends me a copy of their completed, printed book by December 31, 2010 will receive a special gift from me.

Third, if you need more structured help, you can apply for a special strategy session to help you get started on your book project this year. Because of time constraints, only a limited number of these sessions is available. You can apply for the special session at:
http://www.academyofwritingexcellence.com/strategysession.htm

I look forward to helping you write your book this year. If you have any questions, just let me know.

Getting Started Writing: The First Steps

When you are ready to start writing your book, here are the first steps you need to take.

First, decide on a theme for your book. What is the big idea you want to get across to your audience? State it in one sentence.

Second, create your topic from your theme and narrow your focus so you can cover your subject in depth.

Third, decide who your target audience is. Decide what they know now and what they will know when they finish reading your book. Decide what steps are needed to take them from the first point to the final point.

Fourth, outline your book, including the topics, stories and examples you will use to get this information across.

These steps are crucial to the success of your book. Without them you will lack focus and may omit crucial material or present it in the wrong order.
